Months 7 thru 9

11 month loc update

Ahhhh! What can i say...well i have stopped using oils in my hair. You ask why? Because i really didn't need it, also oils made my hair feel hard. So now i just spritz with plain water, and wash once a week. i decided around month 4 to leave my hair alone, so far i have not messed with it besides washing. I don't style my hair nor do i latch or twist my roots. I letting my hair go through the process maybe once i reach maturity, i will style my hair. by then my hair will be at its thickest.

I want to add that around month 9, i restarted 7 of my locs in the top. i felt like because my hair is on the thin side. that my parts were too wide. Plus 2 of those 7 were combined. So now i have 9 locs that are 2 months old. i think my hair looks a little better in the top then before. i don't plan to redo any more. From here on its the 68 i have will be it.

FREE-FORM DREADLOCKS

7 month loc update

Ok, i have not posted anything in awhile. I am back to free forming my locs. i have not twisted or done anything to my since my 4th month. I finally realized that this was the best way for me, because it is low maintenance the way i wanted in the first place. Also i feel since of freedom, by choosing the route. I don't feel as if my locs have to look a certain way. I'm at the point of where it is easy for me to just let go of expectations of what i thought locs should look like. Just letting my do its own thing and wait for the results to emerge. I'm fine with flat locs with different size locs. I'm cool with whatever my hair comes up with. To freeform or not to Freeform that is the question

So for the first 2.5 mths i have been trying to freeform. May hair has come down at the roots from all the washing. Only the parts that stayed seem to be locking or at least staying together. Those are the 2 strand twist that did come down all the way. So i decided to retwist my roots so the loose parts would loc. Then i plan to go back to freeforming or i may semi-freeform. Either way in the end i will still have dreadlocs. I basically had to do what was best for my hair at this point. I don't feel that with my hair texture i can wash as often as others. My plan right now is to see how well this new twist stays together and not wash my hair but every 2 wks. When i had loose natural i only washed every 2 to 3wks.

I don't use a lot of products in my hair and i think i need a little oldness for my hair type to loc. My hair is really curly and thin, so all that washng every other day was just too much. I will see over the next couple of months how my experiment is going. I will do an update when i hit 4 months.

9/25/2011

So its been 3 month since i started this journey. So far its been going well, i really need to just stop messing with my and let it be. I decided to latch my hair, and i have to say i really didn' like how it looked or felt. More power to all those who do latch its just not for me. So now i'm back to freeforming. Can i please make up my mind on what i am going to do :-) I have noteiced that my ends are closing up and the bottom back rows feel more like  locs. With my texture of hair i really didn't expect to see this change until around 2 yrs. I have a softer texture of hair 3a, 3b with a section of 3c in the crown in the back. i think maybe its because i don't put products in my hair.  I pretty much wash once a week with Sauve and i spray water in my hair every morning. i only use oil once every two weeks. i think too much oil is the reason some hair types don't fully loc until 2yrs...i could be wrong but thats my opinon. well i will have another update around 4mth.

2mth update

OK its been 2mth so far with free forming. I have to say that the only changes i see are with end of my hair that was started with 2 strand twist. I really don't see much loc'n at the roots. I have had people who are twisters tell my that my hair won't loc if i don't twist it. Hmmm i really don't think Bob Marley was a twister so if his hair can dread so can mine, I guess it will just take a little longer. I have been rinsing once a day and shampooing once a week.

So far i really like this journey the freedom of not combing your hair, or worrying how you will style it. The older you get the less you care out things like that anyway. Well didn't have much to say this month may as the months come along i can talk about more changes in my hair.
